Leadership Greater Topeka – Session 1

So I am a little late in posting this, but none the less, wanted to continue to share my LGT experiences with everyone.  The first regular session of LGT was Firday, Feb 13th at Blue Cross Blue Shield, who graciously hosted us.  In the morning, we went over a timeline of the last 60 or so years of Topeka history (here is a version of the Topeka Timeline a previous LGT grad put together).  I learned some interesting things about Topeka, and I think it is helpful to always know what has happened in the past to bring us to where we are now.  Read the rest of this entry »

Sales Tax on the ballot or behind the doors?

Here’s what is going on. There is a question regarding the new sales tax issue. Here is a story from this past Friday’s cjonline: http://cjonline.com/stories/020709/loc_385570846.shtml

If you believe the people of Topeka should vote on the sales tax incentive, I would encourage you to contact your City Council representative.

If you believe the sales tax issue should not be on the ballot, I would also encourage you to contact your City Council representative.

You may find their contact information by going to the city website.    http://www.topeka.org/cityofficials/index.shtml

Frankly, is this the right issue or the right time? I am not sure, but we must act.

We can no longer allow for elected officials to make decisions for us. If we are tired of the same problems, if we are tired of the lack of leadership and if we want things to get better, we have to let our voices be heard. The people of Topeka must decide this issue one way or another.

That is my two cents, what is yours?

Leadership Greater Topeka Retreat

This year, I was selected as one of 36 poeple to be a part of the Leadership Greater Topeka Class of 2009.  Leadership Greater Topeka is a program sponsered by Chamber of Commerce that brings together a diverse group of people in the community and teaches leadership skills and introduces them to different parts of the community.  I will try to share as much of my experiences through the program with everyone by blogging after each session. New Topeka Video

The Topeka Chamber of Commerce recently released this new video promoting the quality of life in Topeka:

What do you think about it?

Overall, I really like it. I showcases some great Topeka locations and events, and even a couple of things that I didn’t realize Topeka had!

The thing I like best about this video, compared to another Topeka video that was also released recently, is that it’s produced by hometown talent. The guys at Gizmo Pictures are the best video production company in the Midwest! I can’t understand why any Topeka agency would pay for a video produced by an out-of-state production crew when they have access to the best right in their back yard.
