I talked with Ryan this morning and he said I should post. Here goes. I believe our tax burden needs to stretch across the county to insure that we have the infrastructure we need to support our community. When I say infrastructure I mean roads that we can be proud of and see the money well spent. And see projects stretch across the entire community to support our growth and development. We need to put the CommunityFirst. I propose we find city council people we want to run under the CommunityFirst name in each open district that share our ideas for the future of our town. Before we can unify Shawnee County we must put our CommunityFirst.

Denise, this is a great post and says it all. Thanks to Jim Cates for having us on the program today. It is so exciting to meet new people who share our mission of positive communication. It is good for us to have a forum to get our message of positive change out to the community. I truly enjoyed meeting him and his producer today.

I am interested to see what it got changed to. Though I think it should have been left as it was, I am hopeful that they only soften it up a little. If it was changed completely and does not grab peoples attention the way the original call for action was worded, Shay is completely right, we won't be able to move ahead if we can't even face up to the problems we have.

Great post Shay, Alissa was reading part of it off on the drive down to my parents. I thought that was the best paragraph in the plan, and wish they would just leave that alone and get to the real problems.

Topeka, the truth hurts don't it, but does one make change were one is not willing to acknowledge that there is anything wrong. It's not the words that will determine our success.... it is the actions behind them. Let's move forward and get busy! I love Topeka!

I have lived in this town since the early 80's. I came here after graduating from Cloud County Coummity College in Concordia Kansas.
I enjoy working with very young children in Topeka. It is great to see some of these adults now that I had as children in diapers.
I like belonging to Capital Area Providers which is an organization of Providers helping Providers. We meet monthly 7-9 p.m on the 3rd Monday of the month and we have speakers that are approved through Kansas Department of Health and Environment. We are able to receive In-Service Hours which we all need to continue to have a license to provide child care in our homes. I like belonging to CCPC of Kansas it is the State Organization of Family Child Care Providers. ( Which I might add will have their state conference in Topeka the last Friday and Saturday of April 2009).
I like being able to network with other providers through our Resource and Referral Agency which is ERC. I have had the honor of meeting the staff of ERC. The staff help make our jobs as a family childcare providers much easier. If we are having issues with children or parents they are there to send us information to read and to pass on to our parents. I have taken a class called Cousious Discipline it has helped me work with my children and their families. This is a teaching tool that I would not have received with out the guidance of ERC and with out them having their office in TOPEKA. ERC sponored a Capital City Learn and Share which was in Topeka in September. Again an opportunity to receive In Service Hours. It is nice that this agency is in Topeka.

I am thankful for our church University United Methodist Church.
These are some of the things I like about Topeka.

I'm glad to hear that last night's presentation went so well, and I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend.

Thanks, Rosemary for giving TransformTopeka the opportunity to speak with your group!
