Fast Forward 2009 – Bigger and Better

Tonight I attended a presentation by the Fast Forward Steering Committee where they announced their plans and goals for 2009. I was expecting to run into a few friends there, but to my surprise there was an awesome turnout! It was standing room only as the Steering Committee presented the coming changes for this year.

Podcasts – Meet the Team and an Introduction to City Government

TransformTopeka is very pleased to announce that we have successfully recorded our first two podcasts.

The first podcast is an introduction to the TransformTopeka team and what TransformTopeka is about.  We have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people within the community, but unfortunately we haven’t had the opportunity to meet everyone.  This will hopefully give folks whom we haven’t connected with yet a chance to get to know us.

The second podcast is a brief introduction into Topeka’s city government.  With elections coming up in April, we thought it was important to help folks in our community understand the roles and responsibilities of our elected officials. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Potluck Success

TransformTopeka hosted our 2nd Potluck Dinner/Gathering on January 11, 2008 at The Break Room at 911 S. Kansas Ave.  Big thanks to Kim Schultz for offering The Break Room for the event.  The turnout was between 15-20, and we had a diverse group from the community in attendance.  After eating the wonderful food brought by those in attendance, TransformTopeka members discussed what is in store for 2009.

There are three important issues facing Topeka in 2009: 1. the city budget, 2. City Council and Mayoral elections in Topeka, and 3. Heartland Visioning implementation.  For TransformTopeka, we are in the process of incorporation as a nonprofit.  We are also working on Pod-Casts and more Potluck Dinners in 2009.  Community Service was also discussed.  TransformTopeka wants to encourage volunteerism with already established organizations.  Our hope is that when people invest time and energy in volunteerism, they will feel an investment in the community.  That investment can then grow into positive activism, which is what TransformTopeka is all about.  We look forward to what 2009 will bring for Topeka.

Thank you again to Kim and to all who attended last night’s Potluck Dinner/Gathering.  We look forward to more opportunities to meet with members of the community.
